Logan McFarland has been charged with aggravated murder after going on a crime spree across both states and shooting 70-year-old Leroy Fullwood and his 69-year-old wife, Dorothy.

The couple’s bodies were discovered in their Mount Pleasant home on Dec. 31, 2011. The crime was thought to be a home invasion, approximately 50% of which occur due to an open or unsecured garage door leading to the home.

Sanpete County Attorney Brody Keisel and county prosecutors charged McFarland with murder in May 2014 after he had already been sentenced to 56 years in prison in Nevada. Among his charges were kidnapping, robbery and a failed carjacking at a West Wendover casino that had occurred on Dec. 31, 2011, as well.

McFarland, who is housed at Ely State Prison in eastern Nevada, has fought against the extradition charges but can no longer avoid it.

McFarland faces the death penalty, said Keisel, and he will have to either hire a defense attorney or use one provided by the state.

Keisel has kept Fullwood family members up to date to let them know why they have to wait for a trial.

Also involved in the Nevada case was McFarland’s alleged girlfriend Angela Hill, 27, who tried to carjack a woman’s car outside a casino on the Utah border. The driver had been shot in the head but survived.

Hill received 30 years in prison after testifying against McFarland, whose defense said his crimes stemmed from methamphetamine use. Both were also charged with burglary and robbery in Utah.

Hill’s testimony included evidence against McFarland, saying that she was coerced into her actions.

Hill’s mother, Denise Atwood, claimed in 2012 that her daughter had no involvement with McFarland.

Just days before Hill’s arrest in a Nevada desert, alongside McFarland, Atwood said her daughter had been celebrating Christmas with her family and fiance, Ben.

Hill, a former heroin addict who had reportedly been clean for a year and a half before her crime spree, said that McFarland had beaten her and threatened to shoot her if she tried to escape.
